About Us

Schoeni 15th

Since making a commitment in 1992 to bring Contemporary Chinese Art to Hong Kong, the Schoeni Art Gallery has blazed a trail in promoting the best contemporary Chinese artists.

We are recognised globally as an established platform from which contemporary artists emerge onto the art scene. We have steadily nurtured an artistic environment in which international interest in the Chinese contemporary artistic scene has grown to unparalleled heights.

We continue to represent some of the finest established and new talent to come out of China. Through the exhibition of pioneers in Chinese Avant-Garde, Neo-Realism, and Pop Art collectively, our aesthetic focus pivots on figurative art, visually echoing the volatile nature of China's explosive growth and its interactions with the global community. You will find a common thread throughout: An affinity with the imaginative value of human sensibility, allowing our eclectic selection of contemporary art to communicate a curious sense of nostalgic nationalism meeting a brand new world.

Aesthetically, we celebrate an ideal that rewards human imagination. We relish our role as a catalyst from which young artists can further their quest for growth and inspiration. Our art is a dynamic hybrid of Eastern sensibility and expression influenced by Western logic and understanding. In that context, we seek a place where past, present and future seamlessly merge.

Our philosophy, as a gallery, owes much to our late founder, Manfred Schoeni, who with passion and vision relentlessly led our exploration of the contemporary Chinese art scene. This vision has been validated over the past 16 years due to active participation in countless international exhibitions, and in telling our story in an extensive array of publications, which have contributed to our role of promoting and documenting an understanding of Chinese cultural expression.

As a distinguished gallery, we offer a complete range of services to our clients. Besides providing consultation and guidance to our collectors and helping them to build their own collection, we also offer art consultation service for corporate companies and hotels. Over the years, the Schoeni Art Gallery has proudly provided professional expertise to many corporations including the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Shanghai, the Venetian Hotel in Macau and the China Club in Berlin.

Continuing our gallery’s mission to broaden the experience of its audience to expand on their own perception of “what is art”, Schoeni Art Gallery launched a satellite project entitled Adapta in conjunction with London's UK Adapta in 2008. Adapta aims to bridge the gap between the understanding of the burgeoning Urban Art movement in the European and Asian art markets, creating a dialogue which, until now, has been relatively unobserved. With two shows planned per year at the Schoeni Art Gallery in Hong Kong, Adapta will continue to be a cross-cultural pioneer and strive to bring the most sought-after and progressive artists to Hong Kong's doorstep.
