Cyclops

Cyclops is an artist under the name of Luc Price, whose works can be found predominantly on the street as well as finding its rightful place in galleries. His iconic works can be identified from Manchester, Bristol to London. He first tried his hand at graffiti at the age of thirteen, while his doodling in school caused him to be suspended quite often. On the street art front, Price can be seen collaborating continuously in London and abroad with other street artists such as Beejoir, Sweet Toof and Sick Boy. He plays a major part in BC Crew and is well-known for his skull character.

One can find a definite difference between his fine-art and his work on the streets. As the artist puts it, “It's been growing that way naturally for a while I think. It's like two different projects almost, so it's easier to keep them separate; although I do have ideas in the studio that I can see working outside. I don’t want to sell graffiti in a gallery, and this way I don't have to worry about that. I make my paintings, and if I want to go bombing, well that's cool too.”

Price’s tribal fury combined with photo realistic imagery creates an impressive style of his own. He creates various characters from frenzied faces that survive in sync in the chaos of a woman’s hair to drone-like Cyclops - a member of a primordial race of giants, each with a single eye in the middle of its forehead from Greek mythology - whose presence becomes transcendent as Renaissance-like or saintly halos hanging overhead. The complexity of Cyclops’ style and portrayal can be reflected by the variety of influences and inspirations throughout his creative career, which includes Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, Garfield comics, trash, drugs, saints, god, come downs, Caravaggio, Gauguin, second hand shops and much more…
