D*Face

"Dface is one of the most established artists over the group, and an important figure in British street art. His pioneering gallery Stolen Space is one of the most successful urban art spaces in the UK – with artists including Word to Mother and David Bray on its roster. Dface’s own work is in no way shadowed by his role as a curator. His work if in your face, filled with British imagery and punk references that are full of wry comedy. He has created work on pound notes, appropriated images of the Queen, using the other British icons. ‘The imagery is instantly tangible and so loaded that it lends itself perfectly to reinterpretation and juxtaposition,’ Dface considers. Other notable works have included giant billboard triptychs, ice sculptures and his logo in huge sculptural form crashed into a car. He has watched the British street art scene change over the decade dramatically. ‘Recently I was putting something up in the street and a passer came over and say 'are you D*Face? I love your work'. It used to be someone shouting 'what the f**k are you doing, you want me to call the police' “
